Zip-a-dee Do-dah The Bluebirds Nest

We’ve been keeping the bird feeders full in hopes that someone would move into the birdhouse we have out there.

2 weeks ago we noticed a pair of Eastern Bluebirds hanging around – going in and out of the box. Hummm.

Indeed they were busy building this nest:

Bonnie and Clyde – our new neighbors! We had quite a bit of rain over the past few weeks and hoping that did not deter our young couple from continuing to nest here.  Jenny checked on the box yesterday and yay -4 adorable little bluebird eggs!

Now, if we can just keep the sparrows from running them off!

A little bit about the Eastern Bluebird: The female is the main incubator of the eggs, and will usually lay one egg each day before noon. She will start to incubate when all the eggs are laid. Once she begins incubation it takes around two weeks (14-16 days) before the eggs hatch at an average temperature of 96 degrees.

So, mark your calendar – we should hear the sweet chirp of baby Bluebirds around March 29th!

So I see your on the web. I been trying to get a hold of my sister Christine Doherty in Richmond Virginia. Some one told me that she is on something called face book. Any idea of how to get a hold of her? Thanks, Dad.
