How to get music files on your cellphone
Ok, so you’ve got one of those cellphones that can play music right – just like I do. But paying $2.99 PER SONG to order it from Verizon (or other provider) seems steep and you already have a legal purchased version of the song on your computer. Today we are going to learn how to copy your mp3′s to your cellphone. Now Verizon and others would gladly sell you a “kit” to do all this for $29.95. And you’d still have to buy a micro SD card for the phone. But hey, we can easily accomplish all this for less than $10.00 by doing it ourselves!
What you’ll need:
1) A cellphone with the ability to play music files. Most all newer cellphones can do this. I have the Samsung SCH-u550 and it has very good sound from the speaker even with it turned all the way up playing either ambiant or tecktonic music! ![]()

2) A micro SD card for your phone. This is an additional memory card that you can put into your cellphone.
3) A micro SD card reader and maybe an SD adapter – this is what we will use to copy over the mp3′s to your micro SD card and then access them on your cellphone.
You can get a 2G micro SD for your cellphone, the micro SD to SD adapter card and the SD card reader at amazon, if you need to buy all three components:
Just make sure your phone will take the micro SD card before you buy it.
Ok, now that you’ve got all three items, the micro SD, the micro SD to SD adapter and the SD USB reader, here we go:
Put the micro SD card into the SD adapter.
Put the SD adapter card into the USB card reader.
Plug the USB reader into your USB port on your computer.
Copy over the mp3′s you want to the USB drive.
Unmount the drive if on Linux, otherwise just remove the USB card reader from the computer.
Take the SD card out and then remove the micro SD.
Turn off your cellphone.
Put the micro SD card into your phone. Models will have varying locations to put this card, however most of the time you have to remove the battery cover to see where to insert it.
Turn your cellphone back on.
On a Verizon phone, Click Menu | Get it Now | Music & Tones
Scroll down to My Music and go in there
Your music files are automatically added from the card, so DO NOT sync.
Scroll over to Songs and now you’ll see all your songs.
Enjoy!
As a bonus, if you want to set one of your menu shortcuts to Play Music:
Go to Menu | Phone Settings
Scroll to Set Shortcuts
Click Set My Shortcuts
Click Set
Now choose what you would like it to do, I have a shortcut set to Play All Songs and one for My Music
To use the shortcuts:
From the main screen, click the right arrow/direction button on the keypad.
The shortcut menu will appear and you can choose your shortcut.
Keep it rockin and smile brighter today since you totally saved money and did it yourself!
